Born in 1987 in Prague, Monika Žáková graduated in 2012 from the Academy
of Fine Arts in Prague in the studio of J. Sopko. In 2011, she completed a
study stay at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden. In 2014, she won
the third prize at the prestigious Critics’ Award for Young Painting, awarded to
authors under the age of thirty. From the very beginning of his work, she has
placed an obvious emphasis on a precise approach to the researched topic
She works in a concentrated manner with an unprecedented emphasis on the
chiselling of the technical processing of her paintings. The author is fascinated
by a certain layering and connections of meaning, when addressing the
relationship between materials, especially in the form of canvas and paper.
However, she also works with aluminium, sheet metal or plaster. In addition,
she patiently develops and examines the relationship between the obvious
and the perceived in association with the alternation and changes of planes or
colour layers. In recent years, she has achieved eye-catching combinations
on the border of classical paintings and fine reliefs. Monika Žáková also
perceives the interconnectedness between the content and formal aspects of
her as essential. She has participated in a number of solo and group
exhibitions in several European countries or in Japan.
